Thanks to the blog team for inviting me to be the guest blogger this week. I wasn’t going to mention the fact that this will be the very first blog post I’ve ever written in my life to them, but hopefully I have a few readers out there besides just my mother (Hi Mom!).

Some of these video game characters may be familiar to you, but hopefully you’ll meet someone new today and try a game you’ve never played. Read on and use the comments at the bottom to share YOUR favorite video game characters. We want to know these things about you too!

Sackboy/girl

The character that you can literally make into whatever character your big heart desires! Little Big Planet was the first game I bought for my PS3 and my very first experience playing a game with friends who live in other parts of the world. We were chatting, helping each other get through levels, and showing off our cute Sackboys and Sackgirls. It’s easy to customize your Sackthing with the hundreds of virtual costume pieces and stickers you receive from Story Mode (or you can purchase familiar game character costumes from the PSN Store). Sometimes I get so carried away with all of the decorating that I forget to actually play the game! I am hooked on Media Molecule‘s LBP, LBP 2 and LBP Karting, and I can’t wait to see what characters this game studio comes up with next.

Lara Croft

Playing Tomb Raider as Lara Croft was my first experience playing a video game as a female character. This was a pretty epic moment for a girl who has been playing video games since 1985 as male characters. When PlayStation launched, Tomb Raider was the first game I played, and my friend and I literally watched the sun set and then rise the next day playing this game. Lara Croft represents that strong, independent, intelligent and gorgeous woman that I think some of us women would love to be a little more like. She was absolutely inspiring for me as a teenage gamer starting to think about who might be behind this character, creating the art & story, and what it must be like to work in this industry.

God-Cat

If you haven’t played Battle Cats yet, it’s a free application for both iOS & Android users and perfect for any cat-ladies out there like me (or anyone, considering I learned of this app from all of the guys on my team who couldn’t stop playing it themselves. I’m pretty sure they aren’t cat-ladies)! I have logged in every single day since downloading this game in an attempt to add to my virtual kitty arsenal. God-Cat is always there in every battle just in case you run into trouble; you can call on him for a miracle. From the moment I laid my eyes on God-Cat, I have to admit I’ve had a little bit of a crush. You can’t deny the allure of that body, the cuteness of his face, and the handsome blue hair flowing in the battle breeze. Do you believe?

Triple Town Bears

The video game character we love to hate! But they are so darn cute; even if their only goal is terrorizing the neighborhood, I can’t help but adore them. I play Triple Town on my iPhone, iPad, and on Facebook and never play in “Peaceful Valley” where there aren’t bears! The bears make this game for me, creating a challenge to keep those cuties contained and hopefully turn them into churches. Hallelujah! Remember the old days of Tetris, when you would close your eyes and that was all you could see or think about after playing for too long? That’s what these bears do to me… I start thinking in 3s everywhere I go, imagining random objects will turn into something else if they are sitting too close to two more of the same thing. I may not actually pull my car too close if there are only two cars sitting at a red light in front of me. You never know! My Triple Town Bear that I got from the Spry Fox team at PAX last year has prime real estate on my desk where I keep him away from your neighborhood. You’re welcome!

Sunflower

I have so many favorite PopCap characters, but this time we’ll leave Sophie, Bjorn and those cute ‘lil Chuzzles out of it. This is all about Sunflower. This character emits sun and lights up right before she spreads that sunshiny love. She is a requirement in Plants vs. Zombies day levels, as sunshine is your currency to buy plants with (Do I really need to explain this? If you don’t know, you should probably go out right away and get this game before Plants vs. Zombies 2 is released this summer!). Did you know she makes an appearance in more than just our lovable Plants vs. Zombies game? You can now find Sunflower on Facebook in PvZ Adventures and don’t forget to download Zen Studios: Pinball FX2 and grab the Plants vs. Zombies table launched last year. Sunflower is the star of this show (Co-Co-Co-COMBO!) and definitely worth a nudge! She always brings a smile to my face, hence my little collection of Sunflowers keeping my window sunny even on rainy Seattle days. Someday when she’s back in stock, this WILL be added to my collection from the PvZ Store!

It’s Wear Underpants Outside Your Pants Day!

I think it’s especially magical that this holiday falls on a Wednesday this year, because Wednesday is new comic books day. And personally, when I think of someone wearing underpants outside their pants, I don’t merely think, “What a silly sartorial choice,” I think of superheroes. (And white coats and padded rooms, maybe. Just a little. Might depend how well the outfit matches. Our zombie, for instance, looks pretty snazzy.)

So as you walk around today, if you see anyone celebrating this little-known holiday, give them a smile. (Not too inviting a smile — it’s hard to tell a celebrant from a kook who can’t dress himself properly.) And think about superheroes and how you might be one too, deep down inside. And then choose your superhero name and make yourself a superhero ID card. It’s okay, I have one too. No need to be embarrassed.

Then head over to Amazon to pick up a Plants vs. Zombies 2013 wall calendar so you don’t miss out on any more of these special days. You’ll probably kick yourself a little when you see how you already lost a perfect excuse to walk around sounding silly on Fake Accent Day.

Not a creature was stirring, not even a zombie mouse.

In hopes that St. Yeti soon would be there.

The game players were nestled all snug in their beds,

While visions of a free Vacation Quest danced in their heads.

And Sunflower in her ‘kerchief, and Squash in his cap,

Had just settled their brains for a long winter’s nap.

When out on the lawn there arose such a clatter,

Squash sprang from the bed to see what was the matter.

Away to the window he flew like a kernel from a kernel-pult,

Tore open the shutters and threw open the bolt.

The moon on the breast of the new-fallen snow

Gave the luster of Bejeweled gems to objects below.

Then Squash saw a site that made his eyes go agog,

A miniature sleigh, and eight tiny Zuma frogs.

It had a monstrous old driver, so snowy and sweaty,

He knew in a moment it must be St. Yeti.

More rapid than Lex his coursers they came,

And he whistled, and shouted, and called them by name!

“Now Noodles! now, Cuddles! Now, Hercules and Sally!

On, Eduardo! On, Jacques! On Pearl and Sophie!

To the top of the Facebook screen! To the top of the wall!

Now hop away! Hop away! Hop away all!”

And then, in a twinkling, Squash heard on the roof

The prancing and pawing of each little webbed foot.

As Squash drew close wall-nut and a couple puff-shrooms,

Down the chimney St. Yeti came with a big boom.

He was dressed all in fur, from his head to his foot,

And his solitary hat tarnished with ashes and soot.

A bundle of zombies he had flung on his back,

And he looked like a yeti searching for a midnight snack.

His eyes – how they stared! His dimples like trolls!

His cheeks were like dirt, his nose two empty holes!

His giant gaping mouth was dribbling with drool

And the beard of his chin was as grey as a ghoul.

The thorn from a cactus was tight in his teeth,

And a flower pot rim encircled his head like a wreath.

He had a broad face and a white furry belly,

That shook when he gurgled, like a bowlful of jelly!

He was chubby and slow, a right smelly old zombie,

And Squash, when he saw him, called for the plant posse.

Then a wink of a Yeti eye and a twist of his head,

And for a second every plant was filled with deep dread.

But he ate not a brain, and went straight to his work,

And laying his remaining finger aside of his nose,

And lurching up, up the chimney he rose!

He sprang to his sleigh, to his team gave a whistle,

And away they all flew like the down of a thistle.

But I heard him groan, ‘ere he drove out of sight,
