A Match Made in Bejeweled

Greetings and salutations Blog Riders! My name is Stephanie, or as the Bejeweled Blitz community knows me, PopCap Stephanie. I am the Community Engagement Lead for Bejeweled Blitz on Facebook. Every day, I get to post on the wall, chat and compare my score with millions of Bejeweled Blitz players around the world! But one of my favorite things about my job is running contests! (What can I say; I love prizes and making people happy!)

In August I held a contest asking fans to share their most incredible, hilarious, awesome Bejeweled Blitz game memory in order to win a real-life Bejeweled Blitz ‘Rare Gem’.

While I received a lot of great stories, there was one that literally made me go “Awwwwww!” out loud.

Fan Laura Sheriff of Maryland had a gamer boyfriend, Chris, who used to say if he met a girl who could beat his score at any game, he would marry her because then he’d know he’d found The One. Laura enjoys games and is competitive too, and was elated one night in February 2010 when she beat her boyfriend in Bejeweled Blitz with a score of over 600,000 points! Chris tried to beat that score, but no such luck. She remained above him in the leaderboards and was #1 in their house.

Even though Chris had always said he would marry the right game-winning girl, she was still surprised and excited when he proposed to her the next day, telling her he KNEW it was meant to be because she beat his score in Bejeweled Blitz. (Insert collective “Awwwwwwww!” now.)

The couple married on October 10, 2010, which is the date of the 10th anniversary of Bejeweled! Happy coincidence!

The newlyweds on their wedding day

Laura and Chris welcomed a baby boy into their little family this past June. They have become quite the Bejeweled Blitz nuclear unit! And things are about to get busier as Laura says they will be adding another family member to the bunch next year. Yay for more Bejeweled babies! ☺

I now hereby dub the Sheriff family – the FIRST official Bejeweled Blitz Family of Honor!

Thank you Laura and Chris, for sharing your great story with all of us at PopCap!

Happy Blitz-ing everyone!
